When you must open the airway, and have reason to suspect a head, neck, or back injury from a fall or speedy impact...

·        grasp the back of the lower jaw, the jawbone beneath the ears, with two fingers of each hand

·        gently pull the jawbone upwards to jut the chin out, creating an underbite.

·        This pulls the tongue clear of the airway, without altering the positions of the skull or the neck.

·        Use this position any time you have reason to suspect a head, neck, or back injury.
